Together with members of the American Studies program at Radboud University, the Gelderland Zuid Public Library (OBGZ) has assembled a collection of essential reading for anyone who wants to understand the United States better.
This bookshelf is the first of several collections that OBGZ plans to develop with local communities in the coming years. It already brings together more than 50 titles.
The bookshelf will be launched at a special event on Wednesday, October 14.
Hans Bak (professor emeritus of American Literature and American Studies) will speak about the young Black poet Amanda Gorman (“The Hill We Climb”).
Peter van der Heiden (assistant professor of Language & Communication and North American Studies). To mark the publication of his new book Dutch-Americans: Nederlanders die Amerikaanse Geschiedenis Schreven, Peter van der Heiden will discuss Jane Fonda as the embodiment of celebrity protest.
The Audite Nova Chamber Choir will offer a preview of its "We the People" program, including Philip Glass’s There Are Some Men, which in this case refers to another celebrity: Dolly Parton.
